Downloaded the latest GPU-Z update that displays hotspot temperature. Earlier versions didn’t show this. The current readings are significantly higher than usual. The machine has been running for about eight hours and has been idle for roughly an hour now.

It's referred to as a hot spot since it exceeds the typical temperature. A rise of 10 to 15 degrees above the norm is considered typical for this area.

I get it. The images I've seen often display just a couple of degrees above the norm, which raised my concerns. After four years, I'm concerned the thermal paste might not be performing well and could be failing in certain areas, leading to noticeable differences.

GTX 980 and 1070 perform quite similarly, with the 980 showing a bit more heat in the cores during intense rendering or gaming tasks. That’s acceptable.

You're viewing the temperatures while the clock runs at 139MHz. Adding some load will probably give you more accurate readings compared to other reports.

You're in luck with a GTX 1070, especially if you have a triple fan setup—hope it delivers solid 60 frames per second!
