I'm new to OC and only familiar with AMD Ryzen Master, Cinebench R23, and HWiNFO. I have a Ryzen 5 2600 with an aftermarket cooler, Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120. I attempted to set 1.5V for a target speed of 4Ghz, but it stabilizes around 70°C and throttles. Google says the safe range is about 80-90°C. What should I do instead?

You're using a lower-end silicon chip on Zen+ with a 4GHz processor. At 1.4375v it should run smoothly across all cores, reaching 112W and handling 83°C. The stock cooling setup works well for the performance you're seeing.

The 1.5V setting is too high for 4GHz on that chip and exceeds safe voltage limits. It could indicate power throttling—Zen+ was drawing significant power. You might want to check the VRM temperatures if available in HWiNFO. What motherboard are you running?

2600 should stay stable until it reaches 95°C. According to RONOTHAN, this is likely due to power throttling, which accounts for the reduced peak temperature.

It holds steady at 70°C while Cinebench executes A Biostar B450M. Did you know motherboard usually plays a role?

It usually doesn’t matter much on midrange to high-end boards, but my concern was checking if it’s a low-end unit with a barely working VRM. Biostar is known for producing some of the worst VRMs, so if anything could throttle a 2600 it would be this board. It seems to be particularly problematic, so I’d keep an eye on VRM temperatures to confirm it isn’t overheating (it probably is). Additionally, they’ve had problems with using excessively small inductors on their B550 boards, which could lead to overheating if VRM temps aren’t managed properly.
