Hey there, I recently got a graphics card a couple of weeks back and haven’t faced any performance hiccups or crashes. The only concern is my GPU temperature reading is about 40°C higher than the edge measurement, which is what I expected under load. I played the Silent Hill remake 2 yesterday with Radeon Overlay and noticed the hotspot reached 100°C, but the clock speeds stayed normal and the edge temp hovered around 60°C. I wanted to check if this is typical or if I should consider replacing it. During the tests, I ran a set of benchmarks and saw the hotspot approach 90°C, rarely exceeding that until I played the game. I usually enable Radeon Chill for power and noise reduction, but I turned it off for these tests. The GPU also has a small overclock setting, which I’ve attached for reference. Apart from that, the room stays cool at around 21°C with two dedicated 140mm fans for the GPU intake, so I think airflow isn’t the issue. Anyone else see this same issue or is it isolated? Let me know the system details and GPU specs.

It's typical in this case because of the AMD architecture, though it remains within the TJmax limit at 110°C—it's just not the most efficient. On my Sapphire Pulse RX 6800 XT, I experienced a thermal paste failure caused by repeated heating and cooling cycles. After reapplying the paste, things stabilized for about two to three weeks before it recurred. The best solution was upgrading to a PTM 7950 and performing a washer mod to slightly boost pressure during installation. If you choose to go that route, handle it carefully—avoid over-tightening screws, as this could damage the GPU die or warp the PCB, leading to future problems. This issue hasn't happened again since.

It seems the update was quite demanding, wasn't it? Could you share your preferred temperatures after the change? What does a washermod mean? Should I add more washers or reduce them? I'll think about this if it becomes a bigger concern for me, especially since the GPU clocks look normal. Thanks for letting me know—reworking it wouldn't be worth it without the PTM 7950 and the mod.

There was a significant temperature variation from nearly 40°C to just 18°C, and the GPU temperature also decreased slightly while fan speeds reduced. I added rubber washers under the four screws around the GPU die, which helps me tighten them more effectively and boost mounting pressure. Just be very careful not to over-tighten.
