Is there a method to turn off the persistent Win10 (20H2 with latest updates) interrupts that keep urging you to use Edge? I believe the web version above is a recent update, at least I haven’t seen it before. It appears when I open the settings app. If I tap on it, it prompts me whether to install Edge. No. Also, the sign-in for rewards seems likely their tactic to encourage using an online account rather than a local one. Also no. I noticed another suggestion in the search results when it didn’t display what I needed. Overall, the system remains unstable and not functional. I’ve already turned off “suggestions” in the notifications area. I also deleted two accounts I didn’t realize Windows was storing, since I never allowed it to save them initially. I briefly signed into the Xbox app once, thinking I meant to log in with Windows, but it asked if I wanted to connect Windows to that account and I declined. It still saved the information. I truly wish Windows 2000 would still work. This was the last stable operating system Microsoft released before the troublesome era. Things have clearly taken a bad turn.

I discovered an effective approach at that link. For my start menu, I’m switching to Classic Shell—it removes many ads and offers a superior search feature.

I turned off or removed Edge from my girlfriend's laptop a few months ago, and within a couple of weeks it was back with an icon in the taskbar. After deleting the icon, I waited about three days before giving up. It seems disabling the Edge service and updating it could work. Perhaps I should take over those settings by adjusting permissions. Your system and your budget are at stake.

There was once a batch script, but recent updates closed that gap. Hate Windows 10 and the malware-laden scripts.

This was the final reason I decided to switch to Linux. I set up Fedora and stayed with it ever since.

I run Windows 9 (8.1 with a Windows 7 skin), which works well until 2024 for updates. It offers the benefits of version 10 without any extra features, just security patches and no live tiles or spyware. Once support ends, it shifts back to Linux, even though it has many problems.

Looking for instructions on obtaining Windows 9? It’s worth noting that Windows 9 doesn’t exist, but you might be referring to older versions. Are you sure about the version you’re aiming for? Also, compatibility with Windows 10 apps depends on the specific software—check the requirements beforehand. This could indeed offer a smoother experience if everything lines up.
