Tell me your requirements and I'll suggest a suitable CPU for you.
I'm trying to decide which Ryzen CPU fits my needs. I currently have a Ryzen 5 3600 and want something suitable for streaming and gaming, especially with high graphics settings. I'm not after the most expensive options—just what works best for my tasks. My setup includes a mid-range GPU, decent RAM, and a solid SSD. If you have any advice, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
What games do you enjoy and what streaming configurations do you use? Typically, other applications or tabs run alongside while you stream. The 6-core Ryzen 3600 is performing adequately for your needs; if it meets expectations, consider moving to the Ryzen 5600(X). For those requiring additional cores or threads, the Ryzen 5700X offers a strong alternative. The 5700X functions similarly to the 5800X but runs at a marginally lower speed, with a price range of about $30 to $50 more.
I usually play BeamNG, a lot of Apex, and sometimes FiveM. Most of the time I stick to BeamNG or Apex. I also enjoy a few other games depending on my hardware. While streaming, I keep other tabs open like Discord, Soundcloud, and sometimes swap Soundcloud for OBS. Regarding performance, I occasionally experience stutters when playing Apex at low graphics settings. My game can crash if it becomes too demanding. Streaming at high graphics settings tends to cause stuttering. I’m aiming for a balanced resolution that works well for both gaming and streaming. It’s functioning okay so far, but it doesn’t seem ideal for my goals.
Id go for a 5800x, and maybe a 5900x if you have a little extra to spend. 5800x is 8 cores, and usually goes for around 300-350 dollars 5900x is 12 cores and is usually around 400-450 dollars for slower paced games like beamng id go for 1080p/1440p 30, for fps games like apex i would go for 1080p 60fps. How often does it crash? it should never crash unless something is wrong, high load from background processes/streaming shouldnt make it crash. check your temperatures and anything else that could be wrong. and stuttering isnt unusual unless theres a big lag spike every couple seconds or something. try capping your framerate to your monitor or stream, it can help reduce stutters and cpu load.
I was considering both the 5800x and 5900x options. They’re running smoother now, and my temperatures are actually ideal at the moment. I’m usually around 50-60°C. For the cap, I can handle about 140 frames per game, and my stream stays capped at 60. I’m just unsure whether investing a bit more for a couple extra cores would help. I think it could be useful, but I’m still stuck on those two choices.
Is your game limited to 140 frames per second or does it run smoothly without that cap? That number seems unusual—why not 144 or 120? A 5800x would be sufficient, but a 5900x would work better in newer titles that utilize more cores. The 5000-series chips are significantly faster than the 3000-series, offering better single-core performance as well. Be sure to use a quality cooler, as both the 5800x and 5900x can generate a lot of heat.
Your performance isn't hitting the cap, it's hovering near your average frame rate. With a 144Hz display, you're likely just seeing what you expect. I'm using a Noctua NH U-12S and I believe that should work fine. I'm playing with a LianLi O11 Dynamic Mini and considering either a liquid cooler or a Noctua DH-15.
Liquid coolers tend to be inconsistent; consider switching to an NH-D15 or D15S. It might be too bulky for an O11 dynamic mini, but a Corsair 4000D airflow works well if you have an NH-D15. The NH-U12s should suffice for a 5900X at normal speeds, though it may get a bit hot.
I'm not sure if the DH-15 will work either. I did some research, but my NH U12-S is really tight in my space. The heat pipes are only a few centimeters away from the glass, yet it still fits. I’m hopeful the DH-15 could fit too—I’ll figure it out. I’m also considering switching to the O11 Mini for its appearance and performance. Thanks for your help! I’m thinking about getting the 5900x just in case I need more space later.
