Technical inquiry about RAM
Hi, I’m part of a company focused on refurbishing, recycling, and remanufacturing RAM. We just got some sticks from one of our partners, but the SPD details say they’re 16GB PC4-2400 2Rx8 non-ECC SODIMM chips. Yet the specs mention x4. I’m confused about how this could actually fit. Could you clarify? This helps me resolve my concerns and decide whether to support or oppose these products. Thanks for your help.
Is it on both sides? The four-part grouping isn't inherently significant. 2Rx8 indicates dual rank with eight banks each. This doesn't always match a real physical arrangement, but generally you'd expect a 16GB device to be double sided with eight chips on each side.
They seem to have conflicting answers—either option four or eight applies. Something must be wrong.
It's on both sides but not the actual arrangement of the chips. These are four chips, and the SPD is set to eight. It appears as a 2x8 layout, though physically they're on a stick showing 1x4.
