My setup is around four years old now. System Specifications -------------------------------- Intel i7-6700k Maximus VIII Hero Dominator Platinum 16GB 3200mHz (2x8) RM650x PSU Samsung 256GB 850 PRO SSD Western Digital Black 2TB hard disk. I was using Cablemod's cables until recently, but they wouldn't boot at all. After replacing some, the usual 55 Q-Code error persisted. I checked the CPU and re-seated it, but it still didn’t work. I swapped RAM sticks in different slots, yet it failed again. Eventually, using just one stick worked perfectly. Still, inserting the second stick into any of the three slots causes the system to refuse. I’m confused and worried about this issue. Do you have any advice?

Test every stick in each slot to determine if it's a poor choice, a problematic slot, or an issue with the CPU.

I've experienced tricky RAM slots on ASUS boards. My VIII is fine, but one Hero X model had problems. After assembling it, only one stick functioned, forcing me to remove the board. On a test bench, I repeatedly installed and removed RAM until it worked, then reinstalled it. The RAM from my Hero VIII originally came from an ASUS Pro board in 2016. XMP didn't perform well (I had to run it at 3000 instead of 3200), and the CPU overheated, preventing overclocking. In contrast, the RAM and CPU on the Hero VIII worked perfectly. About half the motherboards I purchase have issues. Some boards got damaged from faulty cables. The ASUS Pro board with the i7 6700k was retired due to problems. A cable also damaged one of my GTX 980s and scared another. Luckily, there were 45 days left on its warranty, so it was returned for replacement. If a stick boots, try swapping them in the slot to check compatibility. If they work, it suggests RAM and CPU are fine but the motherboard is faulty—consider getting a new one.

I'll attempt this. Sadly, neither the CPU nor the motherboard is still covered under warranty. If it fails, I'll have to accept it until I can afford replacement components.
