You're weighing two Ryzen 3700X options based on power consumption and cooling. The 3700X offers a lower TDP of 65W, while the 3800X has a higher TDP of 105W. Since your motherboard is an MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC and will be cooled by a H115i RGB Platinum, the 3700X's lower power draw might be preferable for better thermal performance and energy efficiency.

If prices match, opt for the 3800X. The Gaming Pro Carbon should suffice, particularly if you have decent airflow inside the case and around the VRMs. Be sure to update the BIOS before installing the new CPU.

Sure, the pro gaming carbon model can manage the 3800x. If they cost the same, it's worth going for it.

Hey everyone! I really didn't need to switch my motherboard (on board wifi is super important to me) so it's a relief. It's a 3800X!

For future upgrades, look into MSI's X570 Tomahawk. It seems to be a top choice at around $200 and includes built-in Wi-Fi 6.

I dont think I'd need that kind of power, maybe by the time 5000 series rolls around but I think a 3800X would be more than enough until then. Next thing is GPU but I think I'll wait for Big Navi or 3000 series for that

It's true, the 3800X will probably hold up well for a while, especially since upcoming consoles will also use 8C/16T Zen 2 processors. Nvidia is expected to unveil Ampere at GTC 2020 on the 14th, so keep an eye out!

I aimed to complete all the upgrades by September for Cyberpunk. I’m hoping it drops before then, especially if Ampere is revealed in two days—it would be perfect. This gives time for MSI and EVGA to launch their alternatives.
