Talking About Finding a Souls-Lite Game
Talking About Finding a Souls-Lite Game
After finally playing Ghosts of Tsushima, it’s exactly what I was looking for. Attack, block, parry, dogdge—everything flows smoothly. I tried Sekiro and it was close, but the doge felt awkward and more of a hassle than fun. Steel Blade was my next choice (after getting Sekiro back from frustration) to help me focus on improving with a simpler Souls-like game that still offers assists. Its dodge system is quite clumsy, only allowing parry with specific weapons, which isn’t ideal. What else is available? I also considered Yakuza Ishin (though I’m not a Souls fan and seem to lean toward samurai themes) and Nier Automata, but neither matches the style I’m after.
The souls genre isn't really appealing to me overall, even though many of the games look impressive. I mostly remember them vaguely. I can share some ideas based on that, but I haven't played them because I already have a lot of similar games that are just collecting dust.
The upcoming Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn seems like a possible fit. The last two I considered were Lies of P and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Most of the rest remind me more of Dark Souls' pacing and style rather than the smoother, faster gameplay.
I was reminded about the upcoming Wuklong Black Dynstaty; I checked it out and the reviews were mostly negative, so I passed. The rumors about P seemed interesting but it might quickly become frustrating. Rise of the Ronin looks great but is limited to PS5. I’ll have to consider Flintlock since it doesn’t sound familiar.
Keep in mind I'm searching for Souls LITE. I enjoy playing games without my D getting damaged by a hammer and then thrown into a blender. But people appreciate the games they like for valid reasons. I don't judge. Except the pervs who modify their AAA titles into basically a pr0n fantasy.
Anyway,
I somewhat remember seeing Remanent 2. From what I can see it seems the enemies deal Souls-like damage, but it feels more like an Action game or maybe the footage I watched was just a part of something different.
If you're comfortable with a 2D platformer, Blasphemous delivers a Souls-like experience. The combat demands patience and precise timing, with great control mechanics; blocking and parrying are essential for executing special abilities. The game's essence revolves around exploration, challenging battles, respawn opportunities that also defeat enemies, upgrades, and special items. There are no traditional RPG stats—progression depends entirely on items or quest advancement.
And the boss fights. Oh, the bosses.
If SuperMetroid and Dark Souls combined, they’d create a Blasphemous-like masterpiece.
Based on your firsthand experience, I’ll ask since I missed this title. Many people say you can get mobbed, bosses (and enemies) can take you in one shot, which didn’t seem very interesting.
I’m also not great at them, but I enjoy the design and themes of souls like/lite. I just need something that’s easy to handle so I won’t get frustrated.

I’m not really a 2D player anymore, but I’ll check it out. It looks like I’m running out of good options, lol.
It's definitely a soul-like experience, but with a bit of strategy it becomes quite doable. I tried playing Dark Souls 1 and 3, but I gave up on them soon because progress was impossible. The surge system helps build your character, and the enemies provide a challenge without becoming too frustrating.
I'm not making this to seem disrespectful, but I'm seeking Souls LITE instead.
