Talk about the newest Windows 11 release leading to a wide range of problems.
They released an update in February without requiring installation. It was placed in the top section, allowing me to ignore it until recently when I realized it hadn't been installed. My PC is currently up to date with Windows updates. There was an unusual situation where I ran the update, restarted the PC, and then shut it down—after that it didn't repeat the issue. Everything seems normal now.
I have WD SN550 NVMe and several HDDs, but the file copy performance is extremely poor. I believe the issue lies with Windows 11.
from the reference page, I removed the journal. Initially, nothing changed, but after a few days and while copying files, the copy speed returned to normal, and the issue disappeared.Throughout the process of updating Windows 11, troubleshooting, performing a clean install, and searching online for fixes, I discovered a suggestion involving deleting the -usn journal. This might have resolved some SSD/NVMe performance problems, and I tried it out.
Using the command (fsutil usn deletejournal /d c
from the reference page, I removed the journal. Initially, nothing changed, but after a few days and while copying files, the copy speed returned to normal, and the issue disappeared.
I kept testing until today, copying over 80 GB, and the speed improved significantly. Although I’m not an IT expert, after reading more, I realized that deleting the -usn journal can be time-consuming and may require multiple reboots. If anyone still faces this problem, I hope this could be the solution. Please search for more advice before trying this method.
