System unexpectedly powers off and restarts multiple times without clear cause.
Over the past few months my computer has been experiencing strange behavior, randomly restarting or shutting down unexpectedly. I've owned this machine for five years and only noticed this issue about six months ago. I've tried resetting it to the factory settings and reinstalling all drivers, but nothing has worked. My hardware specs are: GPU 1050, CPU Ryzen 5 1600, 16GB RAM (4x4), PSU some EVGA 650W, motherboard ASRock AB350 Pro, storage includes a Samsung 860 EVO 500GB (265TB written), two old Western Digital drives, and a Fenwi Wi-Fi 6 BT 5.2 NIC. Temperatures are normal—CPU at 45°C, GPU at 52°C—and I haven’t measured them during these events. It seems to occur randomly, sometimes while playing games like League of Legends or when YouTube is playing and I step away. The only clue is the event viewer logs during those moments. My guess is the power supply might be failing, since I’m not using an external adapter and it’s plugged directly into the wall. I’m looking for ways to gather more details without spending much, and any ideas on testing could be useful. I’m unsure what specific tests to run.
First, I would turn off and unplug the case restart switch—it's the least used part and can cause unexpected restarts, something I experienced with a Lian Li device. Next, I recommend reinserting the memory sticks after cleaning their gold contacts, and finally test using a different power supply if the issues persist. Edited May 19, 2023 by Techreprise
Hey there, I know you're facing the same problem. My game is now stable even on tough titles, whereas I used to crash easily. Look at my post—maybe we both have the same setup. Also, I was wondering about the PSU. What GPU are you using? My machine has lower specs but still shows the issue, so it’s possible multiple PSUs could be the cause.
