Initially it didn't recognize the disc at all. Then something changed? Looks like it's a genuine PS1 disc... I flipped it over, but nothing happened. I gave a slight push from the front, and it just stayed there. The disc is spinning, though. How can I fix this without swapping out the laser? I'm not sure if the issue lies with the laser since the disc is clearly moving (just a bit).

That looks a bit fancy for a PS1, but the one we used to use at uni in the late 90's only worked if it was upside down, try it, it might work.

This is a PSone. Later model but its indeed technically a normal PS1. Yeah, I tried already upside down... maybe have to try some more but it didn't seem to do anything, it gets stuck just like in normal position. The lid feels a bit weird (doesnt shut 100% probably) and also the power button... same thing basically. Thats why I think it might not be the laser. And it's completely unmodded btw. Basically 3 things happen randomly: - goes to the memory card thing - says to insert a Playstation format disc - gets stuck at the Playstation logo Edit: "temporarily" fixed by caving in and using one of my several PS2s... which btw improved by having it laying around unused for several years... i know for sure that had issues reading discs too, but not now, not a hitch... (memory cards is another story lol) backwards compatibility ftw
