System stops working upon connecting the headset.
I recently purchased a new headset (HyperX Cloud 2). I use a Rode Podmic for my setup, which includes a USB audio interface (Steinberg UR12). I also use it with my headset. Sometimes when I disconnect and reconnect the headset to the interface, my PC only shows one monitor—running on the CPU since that’s the second display. AMD software reports a driver crash. After rebooting, my screen distorts until I reinstall GPU drivers (I have an RX 6750 XT). The GPU lights turn off when I plug in the headset, but after a reboot, the drivers seem to reset and then I have to reinstall them again. I’ve noticed my microphone sometimes gives a shock when I close it, which might suggest a bad audio interface. But this doesn’t seem to wipe my GPU drivers or shut everything down completely.
I’m not an expert in technical details, but I can consider several angles for this problem. I’d like to check other USB ports to see if the issue persists. If you’re using a USB-C port, testing with a different adapter might help determine if the problem is tied to the port type. It could also help figure out whether the issue lies in the front/top or back sections of your PC, since those ports often share the same internal hub. You might want to use a USB power meter to rule out power supply problems that could affect driver behavior. Have you noticed any other files getting corrupted? Checking if the corruption extends beyond the driver area could indicate a storage issue. Edited February 18, 2025 by CasualExtremist
