System stops working during gameplay (no BSOD)
I’m experiencing random computer crashes while playing games, followed by an immediate reboot without a blue screen. Initially, I suspected a graphics card failure, but other symptoms don’t support that. I’ve disabled certain CPU c-states with assistance, which slightly reduced crash frequency. Cleaning out corrupt Windows files didn’t resolve the problem. I’ve had past RAM seating issues, but I’m not sure they’re the cause here. My current concerns are related to my power supply unit or Windows errors. Hardware details: Ryzen 7 5800X, NVIDIA 3080, 4x 8GB DDR4 RAM, 750W gold-rated PSU with two NVMe SSDs, and a 16TB HDD. Event logs indicate critical kernel power events (ID 41) during crashes.
Did you recently assemble this system? It seems like the power supply might be the problem. I had a setup with a 12700k and a 3080 that behaved similarly when I attempted benchmarking. It turned out my Corsair RX750 wasn’t sufficient. I upgraded to a 850-watt PSU and it functioned properly.
I own this machine for about a year and a half, but the problems began roughly a month ago and have gotten worse over time.
It seems the problem is likely related to the power supply unit. If the crashes occur only during gameplay, it probably points to an issue with the PSU. You might try reducing the GPU's target power settings in your software or replacing it with a more powerful model if possible.
I've completed that step already, but the stress test on my PC hasn't revealed any power problems or crashes.
