OS - Windows 11 CPU model - i5-13600K Video Card model - RTX 3070ti MotherBoard - Gigabyte Z690 UD AX DDR4 Power Supply - EVGA SuperNOVA 750 80+ Gold WD_Black SN770 1TB & 2TB https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RTvdMV I received a new M.2 SSD as a gift because my 1TB drive was full, but after installing it, the computer stopped working properly. I didn’t change the old one; I just added the new one. It still doesn’t display anything, and the CPU light is now red. There are four small debug lights on the motherboard, and I’m unsure if they were always that way. I’ve tried many fixes—cleaning dust, removing the SSD, resetting RAM, using only one stick, clearing CMOS, and even plugging the HDMI directly in. Nothing seems to work. Recently, I cleaned inside with blue shop towels to remove dust collected over time. I also went on vacation recently and didn’t turn it on before adding the SSD, so I’m wondering if something happened during travel. If anyone has advice or questions that could help, please share your thoughts—it would be really appreciated.

Confirm the power source is fully disconnected before proceeding.

You completed the process but the outcome remains unchanged. The PSU was turned off before installing the SSD, yet it wasn’t unplugged. I’m concerned about the motherboard since the mouse and keyboard aren’t receiving power when connected from the back or case. It’s unclear what might have caused this issue, but if things don’t improve, starting with component replacements could help identify the problem.

Have you considered moving the processor again? While you transported it, it might have been nudged slightly, causing a pin or two to become misaligned.

I wasn't included in the journey, sorry about the mix-up. I'll place an order for the thermal paste right now, though. Unless you believe I can manage without it, I'll proceed with the replacement.

Just restarted the CPU and it was performing the same action again. The CPU and the board connections appeared fine, but while checking reviews for various Gigabyte boards and noticing no specific mention for my particular model (a different Z690 version), some users reported seeing the CPU light or other indicators after a few months, eventually leading to the board itself failing.

Ensure all power and motherboard cables are securely attached with no loose ends, and please try a different CPU if needed.

All cables appear solid and well-built, verified the PSU side as well. No other CPU or components available for testing.

I didn’t refresh this a few days back, but my guess was correct—the motherboard seemed to fail unexpectedly. It might not have been linked to the SSD; looking at other reviews that reported similar issues, it probably just happened by chance.
