System shutting down repeatedly before BIOS reinitializes and restarts the computer.
It's an MSI H310M Pro M2 Plus i5 8400 with two RAM sticks—one Kingston and one Samsung—both set to 2666 CL19. The BIOS is up to date, and everything has been working smoothly since at least September last year. I haven’t made any adjustments since then. Recently, it started behaving strangely for no apparent reason, without any power cuts or accidental shutdowns. Now I don’t have any warranty left on the motherboard, and since the system won’t accept returns without payment, I’m not planning to do that anytime soon.
It has been okay for quite some time without any issues, so your concern about the RAM choice seems unclear. When I received this PC from my older brother, it came with 8GB, which I upgraded to 16GB and it worked perfectly. Claiming it doesn't like my RAM selection doesn't fit the fact that it's been running smoothly for over a year.
It's conceivable. RAM training might seem odd. It could be choosing to reprogram it, making it unhappy. I’d attempt removing one stick and check its behavior. Removing a stick will also require retraining it with just that one. Next, enter BIOS, turn on XMP settings, and verify normal operation. If issues persist, repeat the process with the other stick. Share your findings afterward.
I also encountered a problem earlier when my 9900k system wouldn’t boot using xmp. Clearing the BIOS and flashing didn’t help. I cut power, removed the battery for a day, replaced it with a new one, and it worked. Could be a good approach to try next.
It seems your PC with an overclocked CPU is struggling with the core cycler while other functions work fine. You’re aware it’s running an unstable system, but only crashes under certain stress tests. Restarting three times resets your profile, suggesting a memory issue.
I'll attempt that again tomorrow. Just let me know if you'd like a clearer explanation then.
