Description of issue: Built PC a week ago, initial performance was normal. Played Portal 2 with a friend without problems. After downloading a virus, the system restarted upon entering menus or during gameplay. Experienced crashes in Avatar game around 30 seconds into play. Booting back shows no error, but Event Viewer reports "kernel power 41 error."
Troubleshooting steps:
- Downclocked RAM, reinserted securely.
- Replaced all components to verify proper installation.
- Updated BIOS, CPU, and GPU firmware.
- Performed stress tests; temperatures, speeds, usage remained stable.
- Adjusted BIOS settings to factory defaults.
- Ran Heaven Benchmark 4.0; anti-aliasing at high settings caused crashes within seconds, lasting up to 30 seconds. Turning it off resolved the issue without restart.
It seems like the problem might be with the GPU hardware. I would replace it.
