The laptop runs an i7 5600U processor that should handle over 3 GHz, yet it consistently caps at 0.78 GHz. This problem occurs more frequently lately. Initially it functions normally, then it drops to 0.78 GHz and occasionally reaches 1.6 GHz. Even though I chose the high-performance power plan, the issue remains unresolved.

Verify the CPU temperatures to identify any thermal throttling. Determine when you last cleaned the dust from the laptop, since buildup can block airflow in the heatsink or fan that regulates the CPU temperature.

Occasionally my laptop encounters issues. A restart often resolves them.

When under load, alternate between Power Saver and High Performance settings while the device is active. If this doesn't work, restart it during High Performance mode and check again.

My computer overheats easily and I can sense it right away—it's not that warm at all now, and it only operates at 0.78 GHz. I recall my laptop used to get extremely hot, often reaching very high temperatures while still running above 2.6 GHz (CPU base clock). After a restart, it now stays locked at 2.5 GHz only.

Download Open Hardware Monitor to track core temperatures directly. It will display frequencies for each individual core. Your overall core frequency is 2.6 GHz, which aligns with expectations. The laptop supports a single-core boost up to 3.2 GHz.

The term "super hot" depends on context and scale. The query continues to pose a question about its meaning.

Thank you. My previous Dell laptop worked after a BIOS update.
