My laptop was restarting while it wasn’t connected, and now I suspect the SSD failed. The operating system doesn’t detect the drive, and any reset attempts lead to the same update loop followed by a black screen and another shutdown. This model is an ASUS ZenBook 14” OLED, roughly two years old, which means it’s no longer covered by factory warranty. Should I accept the loss and sell it, or attempt a replacement SSD? Or should I bring it to a repair shop for advice? I’m hesitant about the repair shop option because it could cost $100–200, which is more than what I might get from selling the damaged unit. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I’m also worried about using it for schoolwork if it doesn’t work out.

The 512GB SSD costs $50, which seems quite expensive compared to a new laptop.

Could someone with a basic understanding help me? I own a collection of small screwdrivers.

It really varies by laptop. I used a Vivobook with an 8th gen i5, and swapping the SSD required removing everything.
