System restarts back to GRUB and BIOS following a motherboard switch.
Hey! Welcome to the group! My PC was examined by an IT service because it froze unexpectedly and I couldn’t get a display signal. After trying a different graphics card, I ended up with a new motherboard and updated hardware. Now I’m stuck—can’t boot any operating system. I’m using Linux Mint via GRUB, but it just loops back to GRUB or keeps cycling between AORUS and Windows. When I try USB booting, I’m stuck in BIOS or see the AORUS logo repeatedly before everything goes black. With no boot drive connected, it auto-enters BIOS. I’ve checked CSM and Secure Boot settings, but they seem to reset every time I reboot. The shop said it might be a PCI-E port issue, but I’m not sure. I’m trying to get this set up for an early access build of Forever Winter, so I still have a little time before things get worse. Please let me know if I missed anything important!
Updated: Replaced the old Ryzen 5 CPU with a new one and swapped the passive cooling ASUS Nvidia card (x8) along with the faulty motherboard. System now boots fine. The previous issue might have been resolved. Could be a PCI-E compatibility problem with the new CPU, or perhaps both components were damaged together.
