Start with your Lenovo Ideapad 320-151kb setup. It has an i5 8250U processor, 8GB RAM, a ST1000 hard drive, a GeForce MX150 GPU, and it runs on Windows. When you play games, your hard drive usage hits 100% and the game stutters heavily. You mentioned not playing heavy games but still experiencing performance issues with titles like Battlefield 4, Valorant, CS:GO, and League of Legends. The stuttering makes even tough matches unplayable.
Checked if defragmenting was done. Used the search bar to type "defrag" and picked the right drive.
Yeah actually i tried that i even disabled harddisk related services like Superfetch
Also think about defining a lower and upper limit for swapfile sizes based on available disk space and Windows swapfile limits. Adjusting these values can help manage swapfile resizing, which generates significant disk and CPU usage. Starting with 512MB as a baseline and 8192MB (8GB) as an upper bound works well. If performance declines, raise the minimum to 2048MB or 4096MB (2GB and 4GB). If needed, revert to Windows-managed swapfile. This approach doesn't fix speed problems but can lower disk activity overhead.
You might need to switch to an SSD with large spinners for your laptop, though it could run slower than the standard 3.5" drives. From what I saw, there’s likely a M2 slot available, but it’s unclear if it’s meant for a Wi-Fi card. A 250 GB drive should cover the OS and games without breaking the bank. If not, replacing it with a 2.5 TB SSD is a direct upgrade, though prices are around 80 GBP.
it should definitely not do that, sounds like there's an issue with the disc drive itself somehow, or the connection to it. I have a very similar laptop, standard WD blue drive (which I recently exchanged to a Toshiba drive that I didn't even test yet) and no such problems, low resolution, but barely any stutters... So yeah a ssd might fix it, but the issue may be something else or another hard drive would fix it - I definitely didn't change the swap file - it's not something that should be done on modern windows, people only do this when they're desperate and know no other 'fix'.
Its really weird i monitored my disk usage while gaming and kinda nothing using it. there is a process called System and it writes ALL THE TIME. Even when im just watching a movie or searching some stuff hdd goes 100%. I Disabled windows update and stuff so i have no idea what is the problem
