I shared a previous problem where my PC couldn't run certain programs or games. After reinstalling the operating system, it worked. Later, I encountered another issue: the computer restarts by itself, and Event Viewer provides limited details. The only clue from the log was a reference to a bugcheck ID and a dump file location. My thoughts are mostly on a dusty machine needing cleaning or a failing power supply. Before buying a new PSU, should I investigate further?

This process of fixing computer issues is often exciting. There are many potential causes. The power supply unit is definitely a common factor, but even inconsistent RAM settings can lead to unexpected restarts without any crashes. Are all software updates current? Check drivers, the BIOS, and the firmware. Note: Online sources suggest 0x00000116 is linked to the graphics card, which could mean driver problems, a failing GPU, or insufficient power from the PSU.

Your firmware has been updated. Updating BIOS can be risky, so proceed cautiously. I’ll help you determine whether your PSU or GPU might be the issue.

Additionally, an overclock or undervolt adjustment could be responsible if your CPU/RAM/GPU isn't receiving sufficient voltage. A defective PSU cable or extension might also be the issue.

Ensure the 980 Pro (particularly) firmware is current, since some versions are experiencing issues.

I didn't really overclock anything; I mostly assembled it and followed advice from others. I might need to replace my PSU cable someday. I tried updating my BIOS, and it worked for a couple of days before stopping. I restarted it without reason. Samsung Magician checked the firmware, and everything looks fine. Event Viewer showed another reboot from a bugcheck.

I updated my GPU drivers but the issue persisted. It seems my computer might be overheating, which could cause it to shut down to protect itself.

Not likely, though you can obtain HWinfo to review your system temperatures and more.

We can eliminate the risk of overheating, which will reduce concerns.
