Hello and welcome. Over the last month I've experienced frequent shutdowns of my PC, where it powers off completely and then restarts itself. This began around when I started playing Elden Ring, specifically in a challenging game segment. At first I assumed it was due to overheating, but it occurred during intense gaming sessions as well. It's become a recurring issue across most demanding applications, including idle mode. I've shared this with others seeking advice, noting that stress tests on the GPU often trigger it. Currently, my setup includes an Intel Core-i5 8600K CPU, Asus ROG Strix Z370-F cooler, MSI 1060 Gaming GPU, and various storage components. I've tried several troubleshooting steps: checking PSU voltage with a tester, adjusting thermal paste, disabling overclocking in BIOS, swapping RAM slots, using one RAM stick at a time, running MemTest86, and monitoring temperatures via MSI diagnostic tools. All tests passed without errors. Recently, I suspect the problem might stem from an underperforming PSU unable to deliver sufficient power. Before investing in new hardware, I plan to check my PSU and consider formatting the SSD or reinstalling Windows. My initial thought is that the power supply is faulty. Take a closer look—it might be the issue. No matter how you adjust the GPU's power settings, it could still attempt to render more. Your power supply unit might also not be delivering enough output as you assume.

That's precisely what occurs with the sole exception of one second after powering off, at which point the system automatically restarts.

These spikes seem to occur frequently, but only when the system is lightly stressed. I haven’t been able to enjoy any multiplayer games lately due to this issue.

It comes down to the actual output of the PSU compared to the GPU's needs and how often those spikes happen. If the PSU can't supply extra power, it will fail and shut down. On my Lenovo workstation, unplugging it usually triggers an automatic restart once power returns, which isn't uncommon. Different setups might behave differently based on how the PSU powers itself internally.
