I just assembled a PC for my brother-in-law and it’s facing some problems. It will suddenly power off without any warning or error display, causing the screen to go black and the fans to stop. Sometimes it happens around 30 seconds after startup, other times he’ll be gaming for about ten minutes before it fails to start at all. Occasionally it won’t power on completely even when he’s installing software. It seems the shutdown became more frequent once he started a game, though there aren’t enough clear cases to pinpoint the exact cause. This issue also appeared with another power supply I know works properly. My suspicion points toward the RAM or the motherboard. I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostics tool and it reported a memory problem. Then I tried memtest86 to get more details, but removing a stick to test individually didn’t help—once it was taken out, it wouldn’t boot, and putting it back in also failed to start. I double-checked all cables, making sure they were firmly inserted and drivers were up to date. The motherboard came from an open box, which makes me think the hardware itself might be faulty, but none of the pins looked bent. Just a note: I had to leave early since I’m about four hours away, so I can’t fix it right now. I’ll need to order a replacement part before returning and figure out exactly what needs fixing. Here’s the specs: Motherboard: Asus Prime B560-Plus CPU: Intel i5-11400 GPU: MSI 1660 Super RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) PSU: PowerSpec 650w SSD: 1TB OS: Windows 10 Pro

It seems your brother-in-law is facing challenges with his new build. I remember a similar problem when setting up my son's PC—it was tough because I wasn't familiar then, and many suggested it might be a power supply issue. Eventually, the motherboard turned out to be the culprit. Though it might not apply directly, it’s possible. You could benefit from someone who can test a compatible motherboard with your other parts. Wishing you success!

You mentioned the PC won’t start at all with any RAM or slot configuration. The motherboard might have bent pins, and you considered replacing everything, even the GPU.

Currently, it isn't launching no matter the RAM or slot setup. It began after I ran memtest86 on each one. Spent around ten minutes trying—sometimes fans would briefly spin before stopping. All motherboard connections look fine, and I've reset and reconnected everything several times already.

No, I haven't reset or updated the BIOS.
