I’m struggling to understand the issues and fixes, my 2018 GL63 9SDK laptop has... --16 gb RAM --Intel i7 9th core CPU --Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 TI GPU --"500 gb" (interpreted as 238.47 GB) NMMe Gen3 SSD [300 MB "Healthy"/ 279.57 GB "Windows(CSmile" / 900 MB "Healthy (Recovery)" / 175.38 GB "Data(DSmile" / 20.70 GB] Added "500 gb" (read as 238.47) HDD (*hard drive is not formatted)* On idle, RAM usage sits at 40% — unusual for this model. I’ve connected a Samsung monitor with Nvidia G-Sync and it runs smoothly at 240 Hz. --Stereo speakers set up with base/subwoofer --Razer Naga Epic Wireless/Wired mouse with num pad --Ethernet connection (ping: 35.3ms / jitter: 0.711ms / download: 29 Mbps / upload: 3.8 Mbps) --Budget keyboard, $5 price point. In Task Manager, the "Background" section disappears and rarely appears as I scroll. My problems have steadily worsened over the past year; the machine is becoming slower and more sluggish.

It seems you’re looking for some simple maintenance tasks. Begin by shutting down all non-essential programs. Navigate to the startup directory and disable most applications except Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. Adjust the settings to turn off automatic updates and switch them to manual mode.

If your drive is nearly full (around 476.81% of 500 used), consider moving some files elsewhere to free up space. Perform basic cleanup actions like a disk scan, which helps Windows remove old logs and unused data. Avoid third-party applications unless you’re sure.

In your browser, clear your history, clear caches, and delete cookies. Keep in mind that deleting cookies may cause the site to load slightly slower on your next visit, but it will remove temporary data from previous sessions. Also, check your laptop’s ventilation; dust buildup can block fans and raise temperatures, slowing performance.

It's been done everything, but now the CPU hits maximum usage right after launching my web browser. I mainly rely on "MSI Dragon Center" for real-time system monitoring.
