Hello, I’m here with a very puzzled person. I bought a Ryzen 9 7900X to swap in for my Intel i5-10600k during the big sale season. Since then, my system has been constantly crashing. I’m working on a university project that requires running on a high-performance machine. Here’s what I’ve tried:
- Processor: Ryzen 9 7900X
- Motherboard: ASUS X670-P Prime
- RAM: 64GB Kingston 6000 MT/s
- Graphics: GTX1080
I spent two days fixing the no-post problem because the AMD PBO settings appear twice in the BIOS. If they differ, the system won’t boot after a reboot. To prevent crashes, I used AMD Ryzen Master to brick the PC on startup. Then I adjusted the CPU voltage using PBO curves—starting at -20 and gradually lowering to -15 per CCD, followed by a general -40mV undervolt. After that, I tried a broader -40mV reduction, but it didn’t help much (about 0.5 to 1 crash per hour).
Crash signs:
- Occur during light use (like scrolling or watching videos)
- Chrome and VSCode freeze and stop responding
- Windows stays responsive during crashes
- Restarting shows endless spinning dots instead of a real reboot
- HWMonitor reads core voltages between 0.68V–0.70V, but updates stop after a crash
I turned off all PBO features except power limits (which are lower than stock). Still, crashes keep happening.
My girlfriend built a similar machine at the same time—same CPU, MSI B650 board, 64GB 5200 MT/s RAM, RTX4060. Her system runs perfectly, overclocking easily without any issues. I’m not sure if this is my problem or something else.
In Ubuntu, I see no instability at all. This seems to be a Windows 11 issue only. Any suggestions would be really appreciated—I’m completely confused.
Yeah, I wasn't expecting it to work perfectly, but hoping it's fine. Adjusting the speed to 5600MT/s helped and kept the CPU cooler, suggesting the SoC was under a lot of pressure.
