I recently assembled a new PC using mostly brand-new components and some older parts from my previous setup. It has performed well over the past two months. Recently, however, every time I power it on after switching it off, it takes about 5 to 10 seconds. This delay feels longer now that we experience frequent load shedding in South Africa—scheduled outages lasting up to two hours daily. I often have to turn off my PC and switch the PSU off to avoid surges when power returns. I’ve forgotten to flip the PSU switch at night, but during load shedding it stays on and then cuts power. Is this delay related to the PSU? Can I resolve it or will it worsen if left unaddressed? Also, should I unplug my PC before an outage occurs? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I'm not sure if it's the PSU. It could simply be an old computer. You might want to leave it or attempt to clear some space.

I assembled this PC under two months ago. The only outdated parts are the RAM and HDD; the HDD is the boot drive but hasn’t caused any problems until three days ago. Thanks for the response.

This likely indicates the PSU is involved.

From pressing the power button, posting appears within 5-10 seconds, and loading into the OS takes another 5-10 seconds.

So when you press the button, it's like you press it 5-10 seconds later right? In that case the issue is probably the PSU or motherboard, from what you say it sounds like the PSU. Try completely unplugging it, instead of flipping the switch.
