System issues causing a blue screen during repeated failures with RTX4070.
Hello everyone,
I’m facing repeated BSODs on my new HP Omen Transcend 16 (model n0000ul: i9 14900HX, RTX 4070 8GB, RAM 2x16GB DDR5 Samsung 5600 Mhz) while using graphic software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and others. The issue occurs when the CPU is at around 10% usage, GPU at 5-8%, and RAM at 40-50%. This problem appeared even after I installed RAM with 2x32GB Crucial DDR5 5600 Mhz. It was quite frequent throughout the day.
I reinstalled Windows from scratch, deleted everything, updated the BIOS, and rechecked the RAM. However, the problem persisted, especially when opening Illustrator. The GPU would shut down instantly, causing the system to crash.
The crashes consistently trigger the error:
Bug Check String: VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE
Bug Check Code: 0x00000116
It happens both with battery power and when connected to AC, regardless of whether I use "balanced" or "performance" mode in Omen Gaming Hub, especially when running demanding applications. The system reaches maximum performance mode only when using AC power.
I attempted a clean install of NVIDIA Studio drivers after uninstalling the NVIDIA GAME Ready drivers without success (the DDU mode didn’t work). Temperatures are normal—around 50-60°C for the CPU and 40°C for the GPU, thanks to my external cooling system with four 4000rpm fans. I updated Windows, Intel drivers, and GeForce Experience. Running BlueScreenView confirmed the crash causes. The AC power is warm, but that seems fine.
I tried FurMark; the GPU reached 100% for about five minutes before stopping the test, and everything seemed normal afterward. Is this related to CPU power?
I’m not sure what to do next. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
The notebook ones. After spending hours this afternoon, I might have resolved the issue…..
I made a significant error yesterday. I let Windows Update install the Intel Driver Support Software, which replaced the general drivers, and my GPU stopped being recognized. I then restored the system to the state before that mistake, and the GPU was recognized again. I also chose to uninstall the Intel UHD drivers and reinstall the version tailored for my HP laptop model from the official website. I downloaded DDU and removed all NVIDIA drivers in provisional mode. I reinstalled the NVIDIA studio drivers only (without any additional apps, SyncX, USB-C, etc.)…and definitely blocked Windows Update.
Then…in the NVIDIA Control panel, I set my NVIDIA graphics card as the favorite for global tasks and adjusted the Energy Management to “best performance” (previously it was “normal”). I changed the vertical synchronization to “active” (it was previously “inactive”).
NOW…it seems there are no more crashes, even though I’m working with Photoshop, Illustrator, and Chrome at the same time with a second screen connected! When moving folders between screens, the GPU doesn’t show excessive activity but functions normally. So, I think I fixed it.
Since I reinstalled the original RAM (2x16GB), it might now work with the 2x32GB version. I plan to update the RAM tomorrow and if there are no crashes, I’ll keep it.
After uploading 2x32GB Crucial 5600 Mhz, the system remains stable. A second screen (DP-USB-C) is now supported. Finally.
