System instability occurring unexpectedly PC experiencing sudden shutdowns or freezes
Hey everyone, a few months back I assembled a PC for my dad. His specs were: MAG B760 TOMAHAWK WIFI i5 processor 14500 TEAMGROUP T-Create Expert 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory Samsung 990 Pro 4 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME SSD. Be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 650 W, 80+ Gold certified, fully modular ATX power supply. Since building it, random crashes have occurred—sometimes once a month, other times weekly.
I tried several fixes: updated BIOS, disabled XMP, reset BIOS to defaults, checked RAM at 5800MHz, ran memory tests in Reset Memory mode, and swapped the PSU (currently troubleshooting). The crashes seem random, no BSOD, just the PC locking up and then shutting down abruptly. Event logs are unclear, just a vague shutdown message.
I’m guessing it’s related to the PSU or CPU, but I’m not sure yet. I’ll confirm soon if the PSU is the issue or if the CPU needs attention. Thanks for your help!
Talking about the air currents inside your PC? What do you think about those?
Igpu ran an RX550 but removed it assuming it might be the problem
Good ideas, here’s what I’ve noticed about the latest updates. System changes seem recent, and there have been random crashes lately. All power slots appear to be occupied. The Intel chipset drivers are up to date. Make sure all hardware is securely connected. It seems some apps are causing issues while others don’t.
My top possibilities are RAM and the PSU... I've switched to a new PSU already, so... if it's still happening, try another RAM. Make sure it's installed correctly on the motherboard, no matter what your existing RAM is like.
I faced the same issue with a 980 Pro, it seemed to have trouble drawing power from the NVMe slot. The interesting thing was that the drive functioned properly on another machine and the PSU did too. However, the SSD and PSU didn't work together no matter what Samsung did. I changed the PSU anyway since I planned an upgrade, but I think it wasn’t the PSU’s fault. Just make sure it’s not related to your SSD.
It has been experiencing crashes since installation. Frequency has increased. The CPU is using a single power slot, while the other is empty—only one six-pin power connector remains. I suspect this might be the cause. All drivers are current, RAM has been replaced, and power connectors are secure. The system freezes and restarts repeatedly.
Tried another PSU but it keeps crashing; CPU is working with just one 6-pin connector. Was wondering if that might be the problem?
