System halts unexpectedly without warning.
Hello, my computer freezes unexpectedly. For a moment, I own a 4090. In terms of performance, it’s outstanding—reaching 300fps at 1440p in Fortnite and other games with ease. Recently, I’ve observed random freezes while playing, watching videos, or using YouTube. Initially, whenever this occurred, I would let my stats appear. I assumed the 4090 was the issue, since before that I had a 4070ti and it functioned perfectly. Now it’s happened five times. There’s no overheating, no overclocking problems I can think of. Each time it freezes, I simply press the power button. I don’t believe it’s ideal, but it seems to protect my system from further damage. I only had the 4090 for a few days before purchasing a Lian Li strimmer cable. It’s possible that the cable is causing the problem. Are there any clues about hardware incompatibility? I’m just going to list my specs: Ryzen 7 7800X3D, NZXT Liquid Cooler 360 (new model with 640p and 60Hz display), B560 AORUS Elite v1.1 AM5, 32GB RAM, 2x16GB SSD, Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000MHz, 4090 GB RAM from Samsung Evo 970 (2TB, 3.500MB/s). Thank you!
Yes, if it freezes you might still be able to hear audio from your previous activity, such as a game or video, depending on how the system is handling the pause.
In May I constructed a completely new rig; the 4070ti was the planned card. When that didn’t function, I upgraded to the 4090. I didn’t just reinstall Windows for the 4090—it’s a fairly recent release. Both models are gigabyte master versions. Have a great day!
All systems halt. Usually I chat with friends in Discord and don’t realize I’m alone. Yes, everything freezes, though occasionally I manage to press the Windows key and my Homebar appears. I can’t leave the game, and new images aren’t loading. I’ve already tried powering off the PC at the first sign of this, but it gets stuck on the loading screen. So: Shutting down…
Sometimes even with the same set of components, you might need to use DDU or reinstall Windows. On the hardware side, make sure all cables are securely connected, particularly the 4090's 16-pin power connector. Also, do you know the ideal PSU capacity for a 4090 is 1000W? Good luck!
