System freezes during operation with xmp/expo software.
My system details are: CPU - Ryzen 7800x3d, Mobo - Gigabyte B650M S2h, RAM - XPG Lancer Blade 6000mhz, Clock speed - 3.5GHz. I was using BIOS version F22b (no longer available on Gigabyte's site) and whenever I ran XMP/Expo it would crash after 2-4 hours or sometimes never. After updating to BIOS F24a, crashes still happen sometimes at launch or within minutes. Games run smoothly without XMP/Expo now. I need a solution.
Consider replacing the motherboard. Alternatively, you could swap in new RAM, but I’d go with the motherboard first since it has a fragile VRM.
XMP/EXPO acts like the built-in profile for RAM overclocking. Just set your BIOS speed to the RAM speed and watch. If it crashes again, lower it a bit and keep adjusting until it works (try a memory stress test). The B650M-A and B650M Pro RS both perform well.
Be sure your motherboard supports both revisions with different BIOS versions. If you have 1.0, F24 works fine since your chipset is 7800X3D and not Ryzen 8000. If you upgrade to 1.1, revert to F21 because the newer BIOS is better optimized for Ryzen 8000. After that, look at the SPD settings in BIOS and adjust primary timings, frequency, and DRAM voltage manually. Leave the overclocking feature off, use timings like 30-36-36-36-76, and keep other settings automatic. Set the DRAM voltage to around 1.4V if needed.
One of my friends is selecting the same specifications but with this motherboard, I’ll get his feedback before making any changes.
