I'm not familiar with network setup. My main focus is building computers; handling networks and troubleshooting isn't my area. I can handle basic PfSense configuration, but deeper tweaks are tricky. I have two server-grade boards: a SuperMicro X7SBL-LN2 with Intel C2D E2140 and 4GB DDR2 non-ECC RAM, and another SuperMicro X8ST3-F with Xeon W3520 and 12GB ECC RAM. For a home use case, I’m unsure what to do with these. I’d like ideas for a NAS or something similar. I have a Pi4 that could run PiHole if needed. Let me know if you want suggestions.

You might consider running a Linux server or desktop with shared folders using FTP or SMB. RAID could be more effective than ZFS, especially with dedicated hardware. I don’t have hands-on experience with ZFS.

ZFS offers greater adaptability based on my observations. RAID is becoming less popular. Compared to RAID, ZFS performs significantly better according to what I've learned.

It looks like you're considering a complex setup, but whether it's hardware-based depends on your specific goals. Let me know more details!

The system operates on a software foundation. A key advantage is the flexibility to include drives as needed. Using RAID, adding drives isn't limited to simple configurations.

I think it's possible, I’d give it a shot, but A. I’m limited by how many drives I can connect mentally and B. It’s already part of my network setup. The software also drains my resources heavily and most SATA controllers only support one disk at once if that’s the case. @Mind_001 for suggestions—consider Active Directory, DNS, or a Windows-style deployment, maybe RDP or something similar.

Explore some of Linus's server resources. It's clear they rely on ZFS on the LMG servers. RAID is becoming less popular.

Do you possess the video file? Even though I’m testing on an 8-core CPU, it can operate at full capacity for 4 to 8 hours, making software performance questionable.
