System failure occurs when GPU usage is extremely high.
Hello, Your system has been having crashes when using any GPU for a long time. The machine freezes or shows only a gray screen. These problems have been happening for months, but they’ve become more common lately—shifting from once a month to at least two daily, sometimes reaching five each day. Issues appear during gaming or mining tasks and often force a shutdown to resolve them. I’ve tried removing all graphics drivers with DDU, which helped temporarily. The crash rate drops briefly but returns quickly to the levels I described before. I’m thinking about sending it back for replacement, but wanted advice first. My hardware includes: CPU Ryzen 5 5600X, ASRock B550 PRO4, GPU Zotac GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, 2x16GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM, Evga 650 GT SSD, and Samsung 980 Pro. Thanks for any suggestions, ChopstickLeg.
Reminder: PSU quality isn't just about wattage. Did you know a 12900k and 6800xt can run smoothly with a 600-watt unit? Or that a 5800x/3080 (maybe 900x/90 is fuzzy) at 750 watts performs okay? The 750W GQ is tier C, which makes sense for different reasons. Edit: Using MSI afterburner to lower voltage might reduce crashes—just be careful not to overdo it. Others shared their experiences. I use an 850 paired with my 3060ti. With a 5900X on PBO, I typically get around 450W during intense gaming, but spikes can hit up to 200W more, which is why I chose the 850 over a 750. I didn’t experiment with this setup. It’s smarter to pick a slower GPU and ensure you have enough power supply to keep it running smoothly than what many are facing now. You really aim to stay well above your maximum load capacity by more than 10%.
Absolutely support that setup, 600W is more than enough. Moving right away seems a bit hasty; it's just a 3060Ti. I'm curious about the BIOS version on that board. Based on my past work with B550, newer BIOS updates bring more stability and improvements. With a 750W setup using a 3090@400W and an overclocked 5800X, power delivery isn't the only factor—your PSU could be the real issue.
Hello, thank you for your comments on this thread. Here’s a brief update: I’m working to trigger a crash at base clocks so I can experiment with overclocks and a second power supply. So far, I haven’t managed to get the system to crash at base clocks in the last two days. No changes have been made to my setup—no driver or Windows updates—and the crashes seem to be gone. Regarding @GuiltySpark_, I’m using BIOS version P2.10. Also, does anyone think plugging my PC into a power strip with other devices might be contributing to these problems? Thanks again for your support!
