System failure occurs during high demand - Assistance required!
As the title indicates, I'm currently facing a problem with my PC that I've been struggling with for quite some time.
My system originally came with an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X (stealth cooler), an EVGA 3070 FTW3, 16GB (8x2) DDR4 3200 CL16, and 512GB NVME storage. It was powered by a 750W BQ EVGA PSU (Bronze).
I assembled the setup in January 2019 and it performed well for several years. Then, randomly, issues began to appear—especially when playing demanding games, where the PC would shut down abruptly, as if it had just stopped functioning. At first, I dismissed it as overheating due to neglected fan settings. Eventually, the PSU failed completely, emitting smoke, and I attributed the problem solely to the power supply. After replacing it with the same model, the issue continued, so I returned it and purchased a Corsair CX750M. About a year and a half ago, my PC usage dropped significantly because my workload increased.
My memory has become hazy since then. I don’t recall if it happened again or how often with the new PSU during recent gaming sessions. Recently, within the past month, I’ve managed to regain some performance, but the problem resurfaced while playing with friends. It tends to occur only at the start of matches, and every time it happens, I experimented with different fan configurations—GPU fans and case fans.
I recently received a new PSU in hopes of resolving the issue, but before installation, I wanted to check if others had encountered similar problems. While I was testing my computer during the swap, it shut down unexpectedly even without heavy load. At that moment, I was performing multiple system updates simultaneously. This made me very puzzled because it suggested a problem beyond just overheating.
I’m confident all drivers are up to date, and I don’t think it’s an overheating concern anymore. Now I’m starting to suspect the PSU might be the root cause.
