System failure during gameplay, black or artifact display observed.
I constructed my PC around eight years ago and have faced some problems recently. Over the past year or so, whenever I play games, my monitors frequently turn black (sometimes displaying a uniform color), followed by a brief glitchy screen that lasts a few seconds. This usually happens with a few errors in the Event Viewer, indicating my GPU is resetting, restarting, and then coming back. Here are the details of my system:
CPU: Intel i7-5930K @ 3.50GHz
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Superclocked
Motherboard: MSI X99S SLI PLUS (MS-7885)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4 3200
PSU: Corsair AX series AX760 760W ATX12V
I've compiled this information here: https://pastebin.com/Aax5BBeQ
Additionally, I recorded a video of the issue for my friend. Normally my PC doesn't shut down during these crashes, but once it did, it would return to normal after the game ended and my Discord crashed (not starting). Here’s the video: https://youtu.be/1XVzjSLNsOM
(Note: The video contains strong language and an unusual angle—viewers should be cautious.)
There was also a fourth event immediately following what I believe is the GPU restart:
The display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding but later recovered.
If anyone has suggestions on how to resolve this, I’m open to any advice. My PC is quite old, but I’d really appreciate it if you could help me keep it running.
All components on my PC are approximately 8 years old, around August 2015, with the exception of the Blu-ray drive.
Check the power supply and see if it resolves the issue. What are your temperatures?
Can we check if it's the power supply unit without needing a replacement?
