System fails to start following PSU installation
Hi everyone, I attempted an upgrade today by swapping out the PSU (Gigabyte P850W SS-620GB) and adding a new HDD. After powering on the motherboard, only the LED strips lit up and the hard drives began spinning. All diagnostic lights stayed off—even the Asus Q-LED, which indicates a device issue when it's on. No fans turned on, whether for the CPU, GPU, or case. What might be wrong? I plan to dig deeper but thought it’d be good to see if others encountered the same problem. Here’s what I have: motherboard ASUS PRIME B550-PLUS, CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600, GPU Gigabyte RX 5700 XT, PSU Gigabyte P850W, RAM Patriot Viper 4 Blackout (4x8GB), SSD Samsung 970 EVO 500GB, HDD Seagate BarraCuda 1TB, IronWolf 4TB.
It seems your 24-pin Mobo connector isn't seated completely on one side.
Absolutely, I'm in agreement. I've seen many horror tales on these forums about people swapping out cables and removing parts just to save time and manage cables better. It's really important to stick with the same cables from the same PSU family or brand. Corsair even has a guide for this—always check outside sources before using cables from a different PSU.
The previous PSU wasn't designed for modularity, so I switched to the new ones. The problem was that I only connected half of the 24-pin connector (there are both 18-pin and 10-pin connectors on the PSU side, I left out the 10-pin). Now everything functions properly.
