System fails to receive signals post-error.
This Friday I acquired a Logitech G923 for some VR racing sessions. Since my Index arrived about a year ago, I've enjoyed good performance on the Nordschleife, and the PC was running smoothly. Then something changed. While driving at around 300km/h, everything halted abruptly—my Index and all monitors froze. Audio stayed active, letting me chat in Discord, and the engine sounds continued but remained at maximum speed.
What I did: As a logical person, I stopped using "Win+ctrl+shift+B" and simply held the power button to shut it down. After restarting, only one monitor responded (connected via HDMI), so I powered down the PC completely, unplugged the Index (as monitors wouldn't connect when Index was active), and tried again. Still nothing. Then I removed the DP cable from the main monitor and connected the Index's DP to the port used by the Index, but no improvement.
Next, I disconnected the USB C for my third monitor and reattached it—once it worked. Then I checked if the DP ports functioned properly by launching SteamVR; it displayed the Index correctly on its first DP port. However, later it failed to recognize the Index at all, though it eventually identified me as a monitor and showed my desktop.
SteamVR Home appeared very slow in the VR view, with no real image appearing through the headset. Other attempts included reinstalling graphics drivers, updating VBIOS, rebooting multiple times, and performing a full power-down of the PSU. I also tried reseating the GPU, but felt it wasn’t the core issue.
I suspect the shaking from the racing wheel might have dislodged something in the GPU. It seems my GPU arrived with a minor manufacturing issue—my second monitor worked fine before the upgrade, but after the GPU change it would briefly power down for 5-10 seconds during startup, showing a green screen with static.
Here are the key specs for reference:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
- GPU: ASUS ROG STRIX LC RX 6900 XT OC MOBO
- RAM: G.Skill Trident Z Neo (undervolted slightly)
- PSU: 11W Platinum
- Storage: 1TB Samsung 980 Pro
- Other hardware: Elgato HD60Pro, ASUS Strix Soar Monitors, iiyama ProLite X2783HSU, AOC monitors, Razer peripherals, etc.
I’m open to suggestions—anything that helps resolve this issue would be appreciated.
unless a custom loop is available, this task should be fast. otherwise, it eliminates a straightforward verification. shaking might have led to a poor connection.
I have rearranged the GPU and started without any monitors connected, beginning with the main display but having no success. Only the second and third monitors are working. I also attempted to use the HDMI from the second monitor on the main screen, which appears connected in Windows, but no image shows up.
