System fails during boot but functions normally afterward.
Hello, I recently enhanced my PC with new components, yet I've faced recurring BSODs during startup. After turning it off for a few hours and restarting, the system boots into Windows 11 and loads smoothly. It remains on the login screen briefly before going black, then resumes. Once back to the login, I can log in, but soon after, a "CRITICAL_PROCESS_FAILURE" error appears, forcing another reboot. After restarting, it returns to the login page and functions correctly once I sign in again. I suspect the motherboard could be the issue, though I’m not sure without replacing it. Steps I’ve tried: Reinstalled Windows 11 on two drives to check for drive problems. Updated the BIOS to the latest release. Tested each RAM separately and rotated them—still the same problem. Reduced the setup to only essential parts, but the issue remains. Parts list provided includes: 4x16GB Corsair Vengeance RGB 6400 C36 AMD RYZEN 7 7800X3D MSI MAG X670E TOMAHAWK WIFI MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ti GAMING X TRIO 12GB WD Black SN770 2TB SSD M.2 Samsung 870 QVO 2TB 2.5 SATA V Corsair RM850x RMx Series 850W Fully Modular 80 Plus Gold CORSAIR H150i ELITE CAPELLIXXT
The only issue I encountered before the crash was a message saying "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\RaidPort2." I haven't worked with RAID before, which makes this unexpected. It seems to match the pattern of the failures.
If someone encounters this discussion and faces similar problems, here’s what worked for me. Begin by refreshing your WiFi, Bluetooth, and LAN drivers for your motherboard—this solved one of my concerns. Also, keep in mind that if you bought a WD Black SN770 2TB SSD M.2 around July 2024 or later, there may be compatibility issues with Windows 11 24H2. This can cause instability with the RAID controller and trigger BSODs. To resolve it, download the WD Dashboard and update the firmware. This isn’t just about my particular M.2; many users are impacted, and a list of affected models is available on their site. I hope this assists others in the future.
