System experiences frequent shutdowns.
Hello! Your computer frequently powers off. Despite checking temperatures and not seeing any critical alerts, it still shuts down unexpectedly. I’ve fixed driver problems, swapped parts, and bought replacements, but nothing has resolved the issue. The recent drive replacement caused an error before it stabilized. Most shutdowns occur when the PC is in standby, possibly due to a weaker state in your Razer Blackwidow V3. It seems more stable when lowering RAM speed from 6000 MHz to the BIOS default of 4800 MHz, even though the part lists 6000 MHz. Your specs are:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D
- Board: ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-F
- GPU: ASUS TUF 4090
- SSDs: Samsung 990 PRO 2TB, 980 PRO 2TB, EVO 970 2TB
- RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo 6000 MHz 64GB
- Power Supply: ASUS ROG-STRIX-1000G
Thanks for the response! It still stops at 4800 MHz, though less than with 6000 MHz active. Using EXPO or adjusting manually doesn’t change much. Usually I keep EXPO on. Yes, it’s in sleep mode when it shuts down most often. To be precise, it never stops during sleep, just a few minutes before the PC fails.
AM4 boards sometimes face voltage stability problems during idle, which can be resolved by adjusting the CPU voltage offset. This hasn't been observed with AM5 yet, but it might be worth experimenting. When manually setting the frequency, did you alter the DRAM voltage? If not, you likely won’t achieve stability at that speed if the DRAM remains at 1.1V. There were also reports suggesting memory instability even at normal speeds without following the manufacturer’s recommended settings. If you configure both frequency and voltage yourself, it doesn’t fully compensate for EXPO changes because the board automatically applies additional tuning when enabled. Are you using the most recent BIOS version? Sleep modes are known to cause issues, and AM5’s BIOS is still considered underdeveloped. Consider disabling certain power management features—such as PCI-E, storage, or NVME—or adjusting the CPU’s sleep state options.
Thanks in advance! I'll implement them tomorrow and let you know then.
Unfortunately, none of the recommendations helped. I’m using the newest BIOS, my DRAM voltage matches its specifications (1.4v), and adjusting the CPU didn’t make a difference. I haven’t attempted altering the CPU’s sleep mode since I couldn’t locate instructions for it. Since many tips focused on RAM, and I’ve replaced almost all components except the memory, SSDs, and GPU, could there be an issue with those parts? I’m open to buying new RAM if needed.
I discovered an effective approach: boosting the maximum file size for startup event trace sessions. Here’s the process.
I purchased a fresh power supply and exchanged the old one, which resolved the problem.
