Uncertain about whether it's hardware or software, a few days back I experienced random slowdowns in various apps—especially video playback and browsers. YouTube clips would stutter briefly every few seconds on both Chrome and Edge, affecting both 4K and 1080p resolutions. Chrome often felt extremely sluggish, becoming almost impossible to use. When playing local videos with MPC-HC and madVR, this issue appeared more frequently than before. Microsoft Word also took 5–7 seconds to close. Overall, video playback and website scrolling became choppy, regardless of the site. This happened on a system with 1080 Ti speed, 5600x resolution, 16GB DDR4 RAM at 3200MHz, all running on SSDs. A recent Windows update might have triggered these problems, but it's unclear if it was the cause or something else. The Nvidia drivers are currently at version 466.75. Anyone know what might be behind this?

Issues in Task Manager's Performance section may indicate resource overload, background processes, or system instability.

Everything appears fine under Performance settings. The issues beyond Chrome aren't severe but they're present and stand out, similar to how hardware acceleration is turned off in other browsers like Edge. For Chrome, it tends to freeze after a while during regular tasks, no matter how many tabs are open, though it doesn't occur constantly. I'll investigate Task Manager for Chrome lag specifically when this happens.

If this applies globally, begin with fundamental steps: review startup items, turn off unnecessary functions at boot. Run a System File Checker, remove any unused programs from installation. Disable overclocking or related motherboard settings that aren't required for basic performance (like PBO on Ryzen). Update chipset drivers from Intel or AMD as needed. Reinstall BIOS and GPU drivers, paying special attention to the DDU wipe (critical!).
