I recently assembled my new PC and planned some performance checks. I attempted the OCCT stress test, but the machine would either freeze or shut down immediately. This is my second build and I’m not very experienced with this issue—my first PC (with a 7700k) handled the test without problems. I don’t think it’s related to overheating since idle temps are normal (40°C). Testing thermal performance isn’t possible because the crash happens during testing. I’m unsure of any other cause. Any advice on what might be going on or how to troubleshoot? Here are my specs: CPU: Ryzen 9 7950X, Motherboard: Gigabyte X670 Gaming, GPU: Gigabyte Gaming OC 3080, PSU: Corsair HX1000i, RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR5 32GB.

The cooling setup usually indicates an issue with the CPU or RAM. Frequent restarts might signal that the power supply activated its safety protocols. Replace all your memory modules and the CPU, ensuring every connection is securely placed. Should the issue continue, perform a Memtest to identify further problems. If the test reveals any errors, it suggests defective memory. For DDR4 systems this applies; DDR5 includes built-in error detection, so its performance remains uncertain without personal experience.

I disabled XMP in the BIOS and the CPU stress test completed without issues, suggesting a RAM-related issue. Memtest has been active for nearly three hours, showing a pass result with no errors. It seems XMP isn't functioning properly, possibly due to timing adjustments. I haven't tried it before, but modifying RAM timings might help.

Prefer to send back the RAM kit and purchase a different one that matches your motherboard's QVL. Skipping XMP reduces performance and requires more effort to adjust timing settings.

Consider testing alternative RAM options or verifying BIOS updates first. It seems there might be compatibility problems with the CPU or BIOS as well. Make sure any RAM you choose meets the system's quality level requirements.

I verified the specifications of my motherboard and realized the RAM kit I had wasn’t listed. I returned the incorrect one, received a compatible model, and everything now functions properly. XMP is working, and the CPU stress test ran without issues. The RAM issue was the main problem. Appreciate the guidance!
