System crashes during gameplay unexpectedly due to timing issues.
The problem: During gameplay, my PC frequently crashes with a BSOD after 2 to 60 minutes. I previously had Ryzen Master installed in Auto OC for Control Mode, but after the crashes began, I reset all settings and switched it to "Default" for Control Mode and turned off the Curve Optimizer. I think the crashes started when I tried using the "Start Optimizing" option in Ryzen Master for Curve Optimizer. The test completed around 80-96% and then failed, yet I kept applying the settings. I reset Ryzen Master to default and even removed it, but nothing changed. For example, with "Mordhau" and MSI Afterburner active, my GPU stays under 80% usage (144Hz, Vsync, 1440p) with less than 210W draw, and my CPU never exceeds 80W or drops below 75C. Even without Afterburner or the software, the issue persists. I haven’t experienced this with "Don't Starve Together" after 11 hours or Roblox. The BSOD usually reads "WHEA_UNRECOVERABLE_ERROR," though other codes appear occasionally. Details: Windows 10 (22H2), full retail, AMD R7 5800X CPU, EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC2 HYBRID graphics, Gigabyte B550 motherboard, 2016 PSU, and I’ve kept the system for over a year. I’ve also re-installed Ryzen Master, adjusted settings, and checked power usage with a PC + Samsung LC27HG70QQUXEN monitor. I’m still trying to figure out what’s causing it.
WHEA uncorrectable often points to an unstable overclock. Have you reset the BIOS? Updated to the latest version? 4 RAM sticks at 3733 MHz can be challenging—consider running at default settings and disabling XMP to test. It doesn’t seem like a power supply problem.
I've tested without XMP enabled and used one stick of RAM at a time, but the problem persists.
The dump file indicates a CPU error related to the cache. Without any overclocking, a defective CPU is likely the issue. Reinstalling the BIOS may assist if it's outdated, though updating on an unstable system can be risky if your board lacks flashback support. A crash during an update might permanently damage the motherboard. Also, ensure PBO (Precision Boost Overdrive) is turned off in the BIOS settings—it’s a strong automatic overclocking feature.
