Hi, I recently attempted to perform maintenance on my PC because the CPU was overheating. I suspected it was linked to the lower FPS during gaming. I noticed the thermal paste had dried out, but I didn’t replace it since I don’t have one and accidentally scratched the CPU, leaving a small gap free of paste. Later, I dropped the CPU onto the motherboard socket. When I powered on, the system recognized it as a new CPU, but since then, I’ve experienced frequent FPS drops while gaming, and the CPU has consistently dropped to 0. People, do you think this is related to the thermal paste or possibly a bent pin?

You're questioning if the problem stems from the thermal paste. The system specs include an i3 8100, GTX 1060, 3GB RAM, DDR4 memory, a 1TB HDD, and a Coolermaster Masterwatt 550 with 80+ power rating.

It makes sense you were already warm before handling the CPU, especially since you purchased it new.

I wasn’t very familiar with computer parts when I chose the components. The thermal paste felt completely dry. Regarding CPU temperature drops, I have the MSI Afterburner screen monitoring active, and when FPS decreases, my CPU usage hits 0% while I was using the default cooling fan. The photo shown here was taken before I touched the CPU.

Review the clip to see how percentages instantly fall to zero. Save the file as ADDA9601-08B5-4BF0-9342-2C505B3A6938.MOV.

The problem was with the cooler, I repositioned it and there are no more FPS drops. Since I haven’t played intense games yet, I’m unsure if the heat will still reach 90 degrees.
