Hello, I’m looking for assistance.
My oldest son and I assembled a PC for my youngest in December 2021. At that time, it displayed only 8GB of the 16GB RAM (Crucial Ballistix RGB 16GB, 2x 8GB, 3200MHz DDR4). The RAM was purchased in pairs. We attempted to resolve the problem but found no solution and suspected either a display issue or that he wouldn’t even notice it.
To avoid going further, it might be related to a BIOS update. Before proceeding, I’d like to exclude the graphics card (Nvidia P620), which I believe could be the cause.
Moving on to 2023, he struggles to play the latest EA24. The main concerns are memory usage and:
Windows lists 16GB installed
BIOS also shows 16GB installed
Only 8GB is actually used
The motherboard (Gigabyte A320M-S2H) has just two memory slots, so I assume the problem isn’t a channel-related one. From what I found, it’s showing 8.1GB as reserved while my other son and I have only 0.1GB reserved.
I discovered this issue before realizing it was a reserved memory situation.
I tried using either slot with just 8GB, both sticks individually, swapping the two 8GB modules, and even changed the maximum memory in the system settings.
I also looked at: https://www.partitionwizard.com/clone-di...ws-10.html (excluding BIOS update).
Changed virtual memory settings, updated Windows, restored BIOS to default (after failed attempts to install Windows 11), updated drivers.
Swapped the working Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x 8GB) RAM with my current setup.
What I haven’t done yet:
Updated the BIOS
Resolved the problem
It could be useful to outline a specific hardware list with PSU and BIOS revision details.
Early on, it was clear which 3xx chipsets worked with Ryzen and were compatible with first-gen RAM.
Visit your motherboard site and carefully review the BIOS instructions for compatibility with your CPU model.
Update the BIOS regularly unless the documentation clearly states otherwise.
If you have a first-gen CPU that is older than certain BIOS versions (depending on the motherboard), support might be limited—be sure to check closely or ask if needed.
