System boots without screen, peripherals activate once GPU is installed
The graphics card came with a 3x adapter. As mentioned, everything functioned perfectly before the GPU change, and the computer itself is still in good shape. I assembled it at the beginning of 2023, so it doesn’t seem logical that parts like RAM or the power supply are already failing. I’m planning to replace the GPU. Thank you for your assistance!
The only suggestion left is to manually enter PCIe 4.0 Gen if you have a 5 Gen on the PCIe slot. Maybe you didn’t verify the motherboard details. If you’re moving from work to home, it might help to find a different GPU model or another price range that fits your needs.
My motherboard includes a PCIe Gen 5 slot, where I connect my GPU. Everything seems fine. The graphics card came from Microcenter, and their customer service is excellent, so I’m not concerned. It’s just a bit frustrating dealing with these technical challenges.
Did you start fresh with Windows? Have you updated the NVidia drivers? How is the GPU being powered? Are you using pigtail cables? A black screen usually means power problems, and I’m not sure the GPU is broken. Edited December 26, 2025 by leclod
I reinstalled Windows from the beginning with the drivers. I included a photo of the exact cables used to power the GPU, and they are pigtail cables. They came with my PSU, so I didn’t buy them from questionable sources. I was thinking about swapping out my GPU tomorrow, possibly to test with a new PSU and check if that’s the problem. My current system is 1000 watts, which should comfortably support a 5080 and 13700k setup. It’s only three years old, so I’m pretty confident it’s still functioning properly.
The problem keeps happening again. I tried placing the RAM sticks in the first and third slots to check if that resolves it. I'm considering putting them back in the second and fourth slots, keeping the onboard graphics active for testing. If it works without issues, the fault likely lies with the new GPU.
