I recently purchased a brand new SSD to upgrade my operating system. My PC setup has the M2 slot 1 with a 1TB OS drive and slot 2 with a 500GB game drive. My intention was to install a 2TB OS drive while using the 1TB drive as the new game drive. After removing the 500GB drive and installing the 2TB drive, the BIOS didn’t recognize the 1TB drive as a bootable option. I’m currently running Windows 11, and it seems something in the BIOS is configured for Windows 11 that’s blocking access to the older drive when the new one is connected. When I swap out the 2TB drive and replace the 500GB drive, the BIOS allows me to boot back into the original 1TB OS drive. I read something like this on another forum. Were both of the drives in the computer when you originally installed Windows?
The problem involved my PCIe lanes and the drive configuration. I resolved it by performing a straightforward Windows installation using the Media Creation Tool. I recently reinstalled Windows a few months ago, ensuring no critical data was affected.
