I recently configured a dual-boot system with macOS Mojave and Mint on a shared machine. Because my parents aren’t tech-savvy, I initially planned to skip the bootloader, hoping it would start directly in macOS unless I chose the Mint partition manually. However, it ended up booting into the last partition instead. Can I adjust this so it always boots into the macOS partition normally? Thanks, Ire.

Identify the Mac model by following these instructions: power on the Mac, navigate to System Preferences, select Startup Disk, choose macOS as the selected disk, and it should work correctly.

The partitions aren't listed as choices on the startup disk. When I restart and switch to macOS, it works the same, and the same happens with Mint.

I installed rEFInd as a boot manager and configured it to use the default partition for my MacBook.

you wanted macOS to start automatically? that’s the usual way. open the preference pane, pick macOS, and restart. afterward, even if you boot mint manually, it should switch back to macOS on startup. make sure to check this, though—i’m not completely confident.

I used to have rEFind but removed it because I thought it wasn’t necessary and I could start directly with macOS without using the interface. When I booted, I ended up in Linux instead of the usual setup. Checking the website’s documentation didn’t clarify things for me, so I might have misunderstood what they were saying.

You can configure the system to start with macOS as the default, so it launches there automatically after powering on. I’m not entirely clear on your reasoning for removing the UI.
