You're questioning whether the ROG Rapture GT-AC2900 is worth the investment compared to your current setup, especially since you already have a Verizon Fios router. It's a fair concern about spending on a device that might not offer significant improvements. Consider evaluating Asus routers if you're looking for better performance or features.

Ensure the router is listed among compatible devices and matches your existing service connection type such as MOCA, fiber, RJ11 or RJ45.

As long as the Verizon Fios setup requires just a router and omits a modem, any solid-quality router will outperform the one the ISP supplies. I haven’t seen an ISP router that works well.

The setup involves placing the fiber cable outside in a Verizon box, connecting an Ethernet cable to the router, and then extending the internet connection throughout the home.

Your fiber connection doesn't require a modem to decode the signal—it can be configured directly as a router. There are two possible methods for installation, but Verizon Fios is typically designed to work with routers.

Yes, it seems router-ready. The only connection from outside to inside is an Ethernet cable.

Choose Cat6 or higher RJ45 and connect the router. Make sure it delivers the speeds and coverage you need.

Verizon simplified the process. It should work out of the box. The key is choosing a router that matches the internet speeds you’re paying for, which depends on the Ethernet port speeds and the router’s SOC performance.
