Switched to CPU - currently Windows Hello (PIN) isn't functioning
Hey everyone! I recently changed my processor from Ryzen 5 3600 to a 7 5700X3D without turning off fTMP. When I tried to open Windows, the system said my PIN was invalid because of the hardware changes. But unlike other discussions, my internet connection worked, so I managed to log in using my Microsoft password. Now I’m stuck trying to set up a new PIN—even though I can change it by typing the old one into the prompt, but nothing happens. I also removed it, yet Windows still complains about no internet access, even though I do have it.
I’ve reset the TPM from BIOS (my model is B450M PRO-VDH MAX), reset it from Windows, tried disabling it, and even disabled just fTPM (though I’m not sure if I have other TPM modules). Still nothing works—no internet connection.
Some other users had similar problems after swapping CPUs, but none offered a clear solution except to reinstall Windows, which I’d rather avoid if possible since I just did that and don’t want to waste more time.
Any suggestions on what to try next?
I have reset the TPM from BIOS (using a B450M PRO-VDH MAX), reset it from Windows, attempted to disable it, tried disabling just fTPM (though I don't think I have any other TPM modules), but nothing worked - still no internet connection. Could you check your motherboard's BIOS version? You might want to enter BIOS, turn off fTPM, restart and go through the process again, then try enabling fTPM and restarting to the OS GUI. This may help. If that doesn't work, reinstalling your OS seems like the next logical step.
I'm using 7A38vBN2, the most recent version available on MSI's site. I attempted to disable and re-enable fTPM without success. Perhaps trying a fresh installation might help? I might need to reinstall Windows eventually, but it's quite frustrating.
Maybe I should reset everything again—old CPU, turn off fTPM, then install the new one. If that doesn't work, I'll consider a full system wipe.
UPD: Just tried resetting the PIN again. Even though it keeps saying "no internet," pressing retry now lets me create a new PIN. It seems like some adjustments resolved the issue.
