I've been considering upgrading to a Ryzen 5 5600G and a B450M Steel Legend board. However, I have some concerns about using M.2 with Windows and the new motherboard. Could you check if there are any steps I should take to avoid issues with games, photos, and other files disappearing? Thanks!

Avoid losing any of your information, it’s safe. A fresh setup of Windows is usually advised after changing main parts like the CPU and motherboard. It might function, but you could still face ongoing driver issues.

Upgrading all your drives to the new board and CPU would keep your games, photos, etc., in place, but it’s not the best move. For the 5600G’s iGPU power, adding a 1060 would be more practical than installing another GPU. To boost CPU performance, consider getting a used 10400 or 10700 instead.

I see you're worried about files being lost when transferring the drive. This shouldn't happen if you've saved your important information elsewhere. Make sure you have a backup ready—any platform like Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox works. Never rely on just one storage option.
